| The Backyard Produce Project is located at 12725 Monte Vista Rd Poway CA 92064. This is a 5000 sq. ft. garden with an adjacent 1000 sq. ft. orchard. The garden is divided into 3 sections. I work in Garden 1 for one hour each week.
I didn't start or organize this group which actually began in 2009 but I was happy to join them in August of 2020 by harvesting vegetables for low-income families and seniors in our community. We have harvested sweet peas green beans green and red bell pepper broccoli Brussel sprouts bok choy cauliflower cabbage Swiss chard and tomatoes.
The garden is financed by donations from companies organizations and community members. The gardens and orchard are tended by volunteers from the community. All of the produce is donated to a local food pantry in the area for distribution to those in need in the local community.
I have worked 29 hours so far since the beginning of July 2023 and will continue to work there on a weekly basis throughout the year. |
