Description
Dear Ms. Ryser Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 3651 the Love Lives On Act of 2023. I appreciate the opportunity to hear about the issues important to the individuals I serve. It is an essential part of our democratic process and I am grateful for your input. Our troops courageously put their lives on the line to defend our country and we owe them a debt of gratitude. That is why I am committed to fulfilling our country’s promise to our veterans and their families in recognition of the sacrifices they have made to protect our nation and the freedoms we hold dear. As you may know the Love Lives On Act would allow the spouses of deceased servicemembers to keep their survivor benefits when they remarry. Specifically this bill would remove the remarriage age requirement for retaining the Survivor Benefit Plan and Dependency and Indemnity Compensation allow remarried surviving spouses access to Commissary and Exchange benefits and allow remarried surviving spouses to keep eligibility for education benefits among other measures. This bill was introduced in the House on May 24 2023 and referred to the Committees on Armed Services and Veterans’ Affairs for consideration. While I do not sit on these particular committees rest reassured that I will keep your thoughts in mind should this bill or related legislation come to the House floor for a vote. Once again thank you for sharing your views with me. As your Representative serving my constituents is my top priority.
