| Post and Auxiliary 2075 hosted our 50th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for hospitalized veterans from 3 major VA facilities in the area. Congresswoman Maxine Waters and two aides from her local office attended. Rep. Waters spoke to the audience of veterans Post and Auxiliary members and local high school students about current Congressional legislative activities that protect and/or enhance veterans benefits. Local high school students from the Interact Club at Da Vinci Science Academy and Jr. ROTC cadets from Hawthorne High act as servers to help pass out the meals to the vets. After the dinner service was over another Auxiliary member and I spoke to the students about the Scholarships offered by the Auxiliary as well as those available through the VFW. We also discussed Suicide Awareness and identified some of the warning signs to the 14 assembled kids. We pointed out that the warning signs are the same for teen suicides and identified what to do if they know of anyone contemplating suicide. |
