Description
Dates included Wed. 10/18 from 3pm-7pm Thurs. 10/19 6a-7p Fri. 10/20 6a-7p Sat. 10/21 6a-7p and Sun. 10/22 6a-1p for involvement with NCVSD North County Veterans Stand Down. I was the community veterans' outreach rep assisting the security team during the above listed time period. I made contacts with many of the veterans who needed assistance on various issues including making sure the security team was aware of any potential issues on site. My tenure included getting a extremely ill woman to the on-campus medical team for assistance (taking hubby too) to get urgent care. I saw the woman about 2 hours later she came running up to me to thank me for saving her life due to low blood sugar inner ear infection and a fever. I also assisted another female veteran with a problem from residents at a nearby cabin close to hers regarding some potential threats. I asked the gal if she had gone to security directly to talk and she told me she was fearful of doing so. I suggested she go to the hospitality store act as though she was getting toiletries but to make a quiet turn into the security office to express her concerns on the incidents. I was notified a short while later that I was to assist this female in moving her personal belongings from 1 cabin to another 1 away from the close cabin she had issues with. I transported her belongings and her to the other cabin got her set up and situated and she thanked me for my suggestions assistance and moving her to the new site. In order for the veterans to find me quickly on the ranch campus I wore a different colored fedora daily to make sure I was spotted in the crowds. I was part of a team to make sure the veterans on campus were given the morning reveille wake up calls to prepare for breakfast at the main dining hall where they would be transported by other golf cart drivers to get to the location (about a mile from any of the 24 cabins on campus). I was also responsible for making sure the veterans were out of their cabins during the day time hours to take care of their required needs of medical dental legal housing vouchers and any other necessities to ensure no one was doing drugs or potential thefts on campus at other cabins. I was commended by the 2 security team lead managers for my customer service kindness and outgoing style in making sure veterans their families and children were taken care of and safe. My 'new' family are the security team leaders who want me to return next year to continue doing my community service for the NCVSD. They were very impressed with my accomplishments.
