Description
I received an email from our VFW Auxiliary President 6604 Cheryl Lambert which came from both our VFW Commander 6604 Rob Lee and VFW Chaplain 6604 Sean Moncalieri regarding a Veteran in Need. I volunteered my services as VFW Auxiliary Chaplain 6604. I contacted Mr & Mrs Ernest Garcia a VFW Veteran at 6604. On September 12 2023 I spoke with Mrs Garcia to see what their needs may be. Mrs Garcia stated that she and her husband both had COVID and that Ernie was in the Hospital (Not VA but at home now) and shared her concerns that if Ernie should pass away she had no idea what to do and wanted help with the planning process and comfort and/or volunteer to help her. They do not have local family and friends are starting to pass. She sought out the help from the VFW to which they belong. I did some research online spoke with Mrs Garcia 3 times on the phone. I gave Mrs Garcia some information phone numbers and local Veteran and various senior service contacts and volunteers for El Dorado County in which they live. I emailed a contact I have at the Sacramento Veterans Memorial Hospital at Mather and was given 2 great additional contacts. I told them I would pray for them and keep them in my prayers and that some one from the VFW will reach out to them very soon to followup. Mrs Garcia was extremely grateful for my help and said I was a very sweet person and also added that ""Good thing I was a Chaplain"".
