from Action Corps recently I sent a letter to the honorable Alex Padilla from state of California regarding veterans' exposure to radiation from many years of conflicts.
Here is his response to my letter dated earlier this week:
Dear Mrs. Snyder
Thank you for writing to share your concerns regarding the health of those exposed to radiation. I appreciate hearing from you.
You may be pleased to know that I supported the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) Extension Act of 2022 (Public Law 117-139) which President Biden into law on June 7 2022. This legislation extends current programs that compensate those exposed to radiation and who have developed certain conditions.
The ""Radiation Exposure Compensation Act Amendments of 2023"" (S. 1751) introduced by Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) would expand compensation for people exposed to radiation from atmospheric testing and those employed in uranium mines. This bill is currently awaiting consideration by the Senate Committee on Judiciary of which I am a member.
Every American deserves access to equitable affordable health care. Please know that I appreciate hearing your perspective on this issue and I will continue working to ensure that those who have been exposed to harmful conditions have fair compensation.
Once again thank you for writing. Should you have any other questions or comments please call my Washington D.C. office at (202) 224-3553 or visit my website at padilla.senate.gov. Alex Padilla
