My letter was sent to the Honorable Dianne Feinstein to support ""Governing Unaccredited Representatives Defrauding (GUARD) VA Benefits Act of 2023” (S. 740).
The following is a copy of her response to me in support of this documentation.
Dear Mrs. Snyder:
Thank you for contacting me to express your support for benefits for veterans. I appreciate the time you took to write and welcome the opportunity to respond.
Let me begin by expressing my deep appreciation to members of the Armed Services who have answered the call to duty and selflessly served our country. I firmly believe that those who served with courage honor and distinction deserve the benefits they have earned.
I understand you support the ""Governing Unaccredited Representatives Defrauding (GUARD) VA Benefits Act of 2023” (S. 740) which Senator John Boozman (R-AR) introduced on March 9 2023. This legislation would reinstate criminal penalties for unaccredited representatives who charge veterans unauthorized fees for helping them to file a disability claim. S. 740 is currently awaiting consideration by the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs of which I am not a member.
Please know that I strongly support efforts to ensure that disabled veterans are protected from predatory fees. I will be sure to keep your support for S. 740 in mind should this bill or related legislation come before the full Senate for consideration.
