| Support Letter for the Servicemembers and Veterans Empowerment and Support Act of 2023. The VA reports that one in three women and one in 50 men indicate they were sexually assaulted during military service. Military Sexual Trauma (MST) survivors are able to file disability claims for conditions related to the trauma but the process has been fraught with problems and such claims are often denied based on improper development. It has been reported that 40% of claimants who requested a particular gender of an examiner were not honored. DAV Resolution 105 which urges improvement of the process for determining service connection for conditions related to MST. It would codify current policy easing some of the evidentiary requirements for veterans filing claims for service-connection for condition related to the after-effects of MST and allow non-military documentation and opinions of medical professionals to bolster claims. |
